October Trip to Georgia & New England 2008

On Thursday, October 9th, Lee and I went down to Georgia to see the Airborne soldier march (Charlie Company). When they all stopped in formation, they let out a uniform, long shout "Air..............borne!" Great start to the Airborne graduation ceremony.

There was one super soldier in the front corner of the formation we were drawn to. Airborne Jay!

The program to pin the wings on the Airborne soldiers was special inasmuch as they called out family members who had completed Airborne training previously. I went through airborne training in Jan '72 and was honored to have the opportunity to pin on Jay's wings. Major Jay B. Baker, 37 yrs old had to get a extra clearance to participate in jump school even though he had just completed Officer's Advance School and was awarded the top PT (physical training) medal. Jay did say that the physcial training was tough and the black hats sometimes got off on power trips with their trainees.
Proud Mom with Airborne son, dressed in her best camoflauge red.

Proud Dad with 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles) cap & Major Jay Baker, Airborne!
